Damp!

4 February 2015

A little tip! Remember to keep your heating on for at least an hour a day to help prevent any damp in your student accommodation! Not having any heating on can cause real damp problems which in turn can take time to get rid of!

Keep Frozen Pipes at Bay

19 January 2015

Good Morning on this cold and Icy day!

Just a tip for all those in our student properties to help prevent frozen pipes this winter

In very cold weather, you'll need to leave your heating on a low setting (or set it to come on a couple of times a day), especially if you're going on holiday for longer than a day or two.

Condensation

7 January 2015

Condensation is caused by moisture in the air and lack of ventilation.  The following instructions will help improve condensation:

a. Leave windows open where possible

b. If you have UPVC windows put them on the latch in the locked position. This allows air to circulate while the window is still locked.

c. Velux windows - there is a vent in the top where the window opens, if you leave this vent open it should ventilate your room.

d. Avoid drying clothes and towels in the bedrooms

e. If windows become damp inside; wipe them down with a cloth

f. If mould appears; wipe away with a mixture of domestos or other bleach and water

g. Always wipe down shower cubicles and baths when you have finished and remove any water which may have gathered on the floor

h. Leave your heating on whenever possible

i. Extractor fans; never turn off the isolater switch in either the kitchen or bath/shower rooms. Extractors are installed to reduce condensation and they are very effective.
